Our
Pastor-Walter R. Dean
Reverend
Doctor Walter R. Dean is
the fourth of nine children born to the late Simon and Julia Dean.
He grew up in Somerville, Tennessee where he received his basic
education. His other educational accomplishments are as follows:
a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology Education from Norfolk State
University, a Master's Degree in Agency Counseling from Hampton
University and further studies at Virginia Seminary and College
and Virginia Commonwealth University; Advance Management at the
University of Nevada. Reverend Dean received
his Doctorate Degree in Ministry from the Providence Bible College
and Seminary.
He enlisted in the U. S. Navy after high school and served honorable
for four years. While serving his country and God he was filled
with the precious Holy Spirit and recognized the call to the ministry.
He responded to that call some years later and was licensed and
ordained to the ministry by the Shalom Baptist Church of Newport
News, Va. and the late pastor Dr. J. Brackett Reid.
Reverend Dean has been the Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church since
1972. He was the former Pastor of Ephesus Baptist Church in West
Point, Virginia. An active member of the Peninsula Pastors Council;
the Tidewater Peninsula Baptist Association (past president);
Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society; and is a recipient of W.E.B. DuBois
Citation for Outstanding Scholarship.
Reverend Dean is the former Director of the Newport News Juvenile
Court Services, a branch of the Virginia Department of Juvenile
Corrections, where he was actively involved in working with various
agencies in an effort to prevent juvenile delinquency and domestic
violence in the community for over 31 years.
He is married to the former Ernestine Morgan and they have two
children, Jonathan and Allyson. This man of God is humble in spirit,
patient, and God-fearing. He preaches and teaches the truth of
God's Holy Word and he has a genuine love for the people of God.
